Budding personality....
There are so many parts to Saylor's personality at 21 months I want to capture on paper, so that I will be able to remember her at this age one day. If I had to sum up her personality in one word it would be this: silly. Matt and I have often wondered if she will grow up to be a class clown one day (weird, because neither of us are really like that). To Saylor, the world seems to be one long running commentary on the things she finds humorous (most everything). Multiple times an hour right now, she comments on everything that is funny: the dog, the TV, her fork, her book, and mostly, herself. Many times a day I hear her commenting "ha ha ha ha, I funny!" after she does anything, whether it was silly or not. She is also really into saying "I got it!" or "I found it!" for anything she finds or picks up.
She is not necessarily outgoing or boisterous, but she is not very shy either. She seems just comfortable being her and most of the time just rolls with the punches and lets things roll off her back. She doesn't really seem to be sensitive at all the way I am! In fact, the other day I was crying about something and she saw me. She got real quiet and came to look at my face, but instead of being sad or scared she just said "mommy cryin!" and then started imitating my sniffling, which made both of us laugh. :) She is constantly talkative with us, but can be quieter around others at first, definitely taking it all in. She is independent but most of the time very cuddly and loving, and of course silly, with Matt and me.
We do have to discipline a lot these days for some hitting and non-sharing with other kids. "My turn!" is a frequent saying from this girl. So far, she doesn't seem to really have that "people pleasing personality" that most 1st kids do...in fact she is quite strong willed and doesn't really seem to be too bothered when she gets in trouble....hmmm.
She is pretty laid back. She doesn't give a second look when we leave her at the church nursery or at school - just happily runs off to play. (She does come running and gives me a big hug though when I come back to pick her up). Her teachers often comment that she is really easy going and just plays happily without issue while she is there. (At home, with us, is a different story. She really likes attention from her mom and dad and is not so good at playing by herself too much...I think I need to start encouraging this a bit more).
She is tough and adventuresome. She is obsessed with slides and constantly asks to go sliding when we are out and about. She somehow spots them from a million miles away. And once there, she seems to have no fear just climbing up the tallest one and heading right down it...doesn't need mom or dad to help her! Most of the time when she falls down or gets hurt she just gets right back up to keep playing, or if there are tears they are short lived.
Other things she is really into right now: TV, buckling (her car seat, booster seat, etc.), Elmo, school, her grandparents, swimming (still asking for it and it's mid October), and singing.
She can say all her letter sounds thanks to her favorite DVD, the Letter Factory. She sometimes can even spell her name or recognize the letters in her name (because we read the sign hanging over her changing table to her many times a day).
She has opinions! Lately she wants only specific songs in the car at only certain volume levels (loud). She tells us what shoes she wants to wear and what she wants to eat or drink.
Her not-favorite things: going to bed (the girl is a staller) and getting her hair rinsed in the bath. Luckily we have made real progress with the teeth brushing!
It's fun to see her emerging personality. I feel like up to this point it has changed so frequently, and I know it still will. But it will be interesting one day to look back and see what things stick with her.
We love you Saylor girl! You make us laugh every day and bring so much joy into our lives. I love getting to watch you be you!

Texas State Fair
Today we meandered down to the good ole' Texas State Fair...a fun tradition every fall here in Dallas. Tuesday is Dr. Pepper Tuesday, meaning you can get in for $3 each! We had a fun afternoon together as a family.

Saylor is in a super daddy phase right now...she loves to say "couch!" the second he walks in the door from work because they always play together on the couch. Or, she also frequently says "daddy hold you" (meaning hold me), which she also says immediately any time her Grampa Dave is referenced. :)
This baby zebra was 2 days old. I actually wanted to cry when I saw it. It's mother was quite agitated by all the people, and it just seems so very wrong for mother and her new baby to be on display for thousands of people in a tiny, stinky, pen. Ugh. Poor Zebra. Don't they just look so sad? It was much worse than the Zoo...
