How can I put this? Our. Dog. Is. Ravenous. By the way he acts one would think we never, ever feed him. Since he has been back on his anti-seizure meds, let me just tell you what he has eaten:
1. The previously mentioned 6 packages of peanut butter crackers
2. Half a plate of brownies I made for book club
3. Saylor's lunch that was on the back of the counter(good thing it was cut into tiny bites for him)
4. Matt's breakfast off the table when he got up for two seconds
5. An entire self-feeding container of cat food
6. Half a garbage bag worth of trash, including a half eaten apple and a four week old jar of pureed baby chicken mush.
The first five happened prior to me calling the vet and explaining that our dog has become a monster and we cannot handle it. She told me to cut back on the meds, which I did and he did seem better for almost a week. Until last night, when at 3 a.m. I awoke to a strange noise and caught the tail end of the trash eating frenzy. Why I took pictures at 3 a.m. I have no idea, but here they are:
Ugh. I am simultaneously so mad at him and feel so sorry for him. I know this is not him at all but this medication making him nutso. I miss my old Harry dog who was only very hungry all the time, but not making me in fear of going to sleep at night in case he nibbles my toes off.
Here is Saylor missing him one day after he was bad and banished outside:
Looking on the bright side, increased appetite is only one of the possibly side effects of phenobarbital. Another is aggression, and I am VERY thankful Harry is showing none of that.
Luckily only 2 more weeks...at least for now. Until then, don't bring your lunch to our house!
