Saylor Says

I love hearing the funny things that kids say. Don't you? I'd put it in the top 10 reasons to even have kids maybe. I love reading mom blogs about their funny kids' quotes. So, inspired by this, I think I will start a re-curring blog feature: Saylor Says.

At 18 months it's not so much what they say that is funny, but more how they say it, which is hard to capture on a blog. But, she is already saying stuff that makes Matt and I laugh; stuff that I want to remember. So here goes, and here's to looking forward to age 2-3-4-5 when there are (hopefully) plenty of funny statements worth quoting!

Saylor Says (recently):
  • Refers to us as "mommydaddy" - one morphed name for us.
  • "Oh my!" or "Oh no!" or "NO my goodness!" usually in response to something minor like crumbs on her shirt
  • After walking into Home Depot, Matt and I were being indecisive about what part of the store to go to first. Matt said to me: "ok, what are we doing here?" meaning, what's our plan? Saylor piped up: "Shopping!" Duh. :)
  • "no more, no more, no more" to the monkeys in her book jumping on the bed (shaking her finger at them)
  • Talks constantly about "Maeyi" (Madeline) - her favorite book right now. She wants to read it all day long and finishes the ends of some of the sentences with a lot of gusto (especially the one about "to the tiger at the zoo - Madeline just says pooh pooh" - she thinks this is hilarious.  Also gives Madeleine kisses on the pages.
Stay tuned for more funny sayings from Saylor!  :)

Needtobreathe

My sister recently got me hooked on this band. Do you know them? Listening to them is like peeling an onion - there are so many layers of great music and lyrics that you can't process it all at once.

Here is my favorite chorus from their song "Garden" (but you really must listen and hear the sweet melody to do it justice).

Let the songs i sing
Bring joy to you
Let the words i say profess my love
Let the notes i choose
Be your favorite tune
Father let my hear be after you

Father let my heart be
For you

Summer fun

I'm catching up on some pictures of what we've been up to this summer.
In June we did a week long mini-music camp.
So delighted by the bubbles

Circle time with Harper
At the lake for the Fourth of July with the Smiths and the Fraziers. We had a great, relaxing weekend with some of our favorite friends! Saylor definitely had mixed feelings about the boat, or at least she did not understand the concept of waterskiing. Matt skiied great but she burst into tears every time he fell at the end of run. I think she thought he was gone or hurt or something. (I guess that is an abstract concept for a toddler...or maybe she's just inherited my fear of dangerous things)????
Having fun with baby Ellie who is super cute

We're taking swimming lessons with Harper every week, and Mare was sweet enough to come take some pictures for us today. Here they are waiting for their class to start (in their very flattering, multi-layered swim diapers).

back floating
If you look closely you can see them under water here (in the middle). They are now up to four seconds!
Lauren and I working hard to get them to jump off to us. They pretty much just laugh at us or splash us in the face.
Singing the bye-bye song at the end of the lesson

It's hard to believe how fast the summer is already going...I know Fall will be here soon so we are trying to soak up every minute! I am thankful for lots of time at the pool to beat the heat and fun with family and good friends!

I'm stealing this from Jen's blog because it's a fun topic. Here are mine, in no particular order, and there are 12 because I couln't narrow down. And still I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
