Saylor Says

Saylor has started "real" praying (meaning not just singing a prayer she learned at school) but actually coming up with something of her own to pray. It's been so sweet (and sometimes funny!) to hear what she says. Tonight at dinner: "Dear God, thank you for this food, and thank you for this day, and please help these kids to sleep through the night. Amen!" Guess she's heard that a time or two!

The other day was gorgeous and we were driving with the windows down. I looked back at one point and Saylor was doing this:
When I asked why she had her mouth open she said "because mommy the wind feels soooo good inside my mouth!" Three year old girl or golden retriever?

We've been reading a Fancy Nancy book in which Nancy fakes an ankle injury to get out of relay race. Ever since, Saylor has been running around the house yelling "oh, oh, I think I injured my foot!" and fake limping.

He's a walkin' man!

Gray took his first official steps last night! I was alone in the kitchen with him when he did it but called for Matt and he got the second official steps on video. :) I had forgotten the intense feeling of how excited and proud you feel the first time this happens...I love these surreal moments as a parent. You can see how proud and excited Saylor is too! Good job, Gray! We love you!

Getting closer to walking!

Gray has been doing this for awhile now, but I figured I better put a video up since we have this one of Saylor doing the same thing. He has her beat by about a month time wise. I know it won't be long now till he takes his first steps by himself!

And here's one of Saylor helping him. (She has had much coaching to GO SLOW with this after we have caught her dragging him across the hardwood floors a few times).

Feeling better!

Gray is on the mend! Those were three lonnnnng days and nights and boy am I thankful we are past them. My parents were planning to come in town for Spring Break and when G got sick they moved their trip up so they could come a bit early to help. And they were an amazing help!!! It is just so nice to have extra hands around the house when you have two little ones, especially when one is fussy around the clock. I realized today after they left and I was unloading the dishwasher that I hadn't done that particular chore in four days!!! Ha! A nice reprieve from one of those mundane tasks that I typically do daily! More importantly, they kept the kids twice while I went to work, let Matt and I go out on a date night, and made visits to both the Children's Museum and the Zoo. I know they must be so exhausted but I am so thankful for everything they did for us. Saylor and Gray had such a great time with them, too! Thanks SO MUCh, mom and dad!

I need to post some more pictures later, but for now I just wanted to put this one up. Gray's teacher at school sent this to me from his class at school- I love how much fun he's having! (This was PRE Hand, Foot, Mouth btw - happy we are seeing that big smile again now that he is feeling better).

Sick (again)!

We can't seem to stay healthy around here for more than a week. :( On Tuesday night Gray developed a fever and by last night he was just miserable. We found out this morning at the doctor (think we've been 4 times now since the start of February?) that his ear is once again "impressively infected" - probably because the fluid never drained from his last infection. I'm pretty sure tubes for G are on the horizon, it's just a matter of how soon we bite the bullet.

On top of that he has Hand, Foot, Mouth which is most likely what's making him so sad. As of now he only has a few little red spots on his arms and legs but the doctor found tons of sores inside his little mouth! :( No wonder he was up all night long, won't eat, and is drooling like a maniac - I'm sure it hurts terribly to swallow. I have never seen him so miserable as I have in the past 12 hours...RSV was a piece of cake compared to this. I asked Dr. Neeley how long to expect it will last but I honestly cannot remember what he said....so indicative of how my brain is functioning right now (or all the time since having kids)- does this EVER get better?! I have decided to just laugh at this new attribute of myself and hope my friends and family will have forgive me for constantly repeating myself/not remembering what they've said). :)

Thankfully, Gray is sleeping now. Last night he cried straight from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Matt was flying in from Chicago and his flight was delayed because of the rain...I have never been so glad to have my hubby return home at 1:30 a.m.!

I find it so ironic that when your kids are going stir crazy and sick as can be is the same time you can't be around anyone else or go anywhere. Sometimes I think this is the hardest part of motherhood- it can make for really long, lonely, isolating chunks of time. We had to cancel a visit from a good friend who is in town because of course we can't spread our HFM germs. And to top it off, it's pouring rain today so we can't even go for a walk in the stroller, which did calm him down yesterday when he was home sick from school.

On a lighter note: we had to swing by Target on the way home to restock our Tylenol and Motrin supply. Saylor was very well behaved at the doctor's appointment so I rewarded her with some new rain boots. She INSISTED on wearing this outfit for her rest time today, and honestly it was a battle I wasn't about to begin to fight. :)
