Matt is traveling for work this week and next, so we decided this would be a good week for Saylor to spend some time with her grandparents in Houston. I was really sad when she left (I cried, but successfully didn't let her see me) and I will be really, really ready to see her when she comes back. At the same time, it has been so nice to have an entire week toddler-free. I've had a lot of sweet bonding time with Gray, time to get some projects done around the house, run errands, and go to dinner/lunch with friends. Even though I'm waking up several times in the night with Gray, I feel like I have a lot more energy than usual. It's sort of been like a vacation! Saylor is having a great time in Houston and getting lots of love and attention and swim time. I am thankful our parents were willing to take her - I know she has worn them all right out!
Here's a few recent pictures:
He sort of looks like a mini football player!
Starting to see some smiles! I love them!
His first bath last weekend - Saylor of course wanted to be involved and she was so sweet with him - talked to him and asked if he liked the water.
Tickle war right before she left for Houston...
Can't wait to see my sweet girl soon! And have hubby home at least for the weekend. :)

3 week update and Saylor says
What a treat to sit down and blog! Spare moments like this are few and far between these days. I am still processing what it means to be a mom of TWO. This has been our first full week alone together without family to help. We've definitely had ups (watching Saylor be so sweet to Gray, enjoying breastfeeding more this time, enjoying a sweet newborn again) and downs (sleep deprivation, Matt working longer hours than usual, feeling isolated and cooped up inside) but overall it's been a good week. We've even ventured out in public for a few short outings!
Gray is doing great! At his two week check up he weighed 9 pounds 11 so he is clearly eating just fine. :) (We are good eaters in the Smith house, what can I say)?! He is starting to wake up just a little bit more, but we are still having some mixed up days and nights. I am trying to remain really relaxed with scheduling, but I am definitely a schedule person. It's hard trying to coordinate both of of them, but I know it will get easier as he gets older and can stay awake a little longer. We've had some rough nights, but thankfully they've been interspersed with some decent ones as well so we can catch up a bit.
I have been TERRIBLE about taking pictures of this little guy. Poor second child. :( Most of the time he just looks like this:
Sleepy! But late at night he is most alert and after I nurse him and lay him on my chest to burp him I can see his little eyes pop open and his cute little head bob around as he tries to lift it to look at me.
He is so sweet. I love his sweet little noises and how soft and cuddly he is! I love the little smiles and frowns in his sleep and how peaceful he is most of the time! I just want to remember it all...I know it will change so fast.
Gray is quite the grunter...sometimes it's pretty impressive how long and loud he can keep it up! I think he's still working out some digestive issues. :) But I will take grunting over crying!
Saylor is doing well too, though she's definitely adjusting. We've had some issues related to potty training, bossiness, and general attitude (towards me, not Gray). But, what two year old doesn't, right? I think she is adjusting not only to him but also just the change in her lifestyle. We've had to really slow down and the lack of activity and being out and about has been a little hard for her. She is a pretty active, curious, social girl! I've decided we are going to be more lax with TV for a few months, but it seems like she's already getting bored with it. It's also hard that it is SO SO HOT outside already...I just don't think I can take a newborn outside in this heat for long at all, which is really going to limit some fun things for Say this summer (pool, splash park, etc.), which makes me feel guilty. But, I'm trying to think of fun indoor things that we can do regularly once we get moving a little bit more, and I know she will be fine.
Here are a few funny things she's said recently:
- "Mommy, here are your options" (doesn't usually give me any, but likes to tell me I have them - wonder where she's heard that?)
- She snuck in on my dad in the bathroom (she likes to do this to everyone) and said "Good pee, Dave!" (funny how she demands privacy when she goes, but doesn't seem to reciprocate the favor -something we are working on)!
- Any time Gray starts to cry she says "I know, I know little guy, it's ok!" - just really imitating everything I say to him these days.
- Today she was playing with her doll in her bed after she woke up from her nap and I heard her say "come on baby, let's go see mommy and give her BIG HUGS!" (love hearing this)
- In the car on the way home from church we were "discussing" Jesus: "Mommy, Jesus died on the cross for you - Hook em horns!" Hmmmm.
-Lots of funny things related to body parts lately (due to breastfeeding and recovery). I won't put them on the blog but let's just say we have officially entered the "my kid says embarrassing things to other people" stage!
Thankful for these two!
