Happy Birthday, Mom!
Today is my sweet mom's birthday (a special one, too!). ;) Happy Birthday, Mom!
We threw her a little surprise party last weekend in Houston...here she is walking in the door:
Once, when we were just married, living in a ramshackle trailer on the wrong side of the railroad tracks, she attempted to shake out a couple of tic-tacs into the palm of my hand after dinner, and when, all of a sudden, a half-dozen popped out, she laughed and said, ‘you struck it rich’ and I thought, ‘indeed, I have’ (and still do).
Kleenex, anyone? :)
Anyways, happy birthday mom. We are ALL lucky to have you in our lives! We love you!

Mom, you are such a wonderful person on so many levels. You are beautiful on the inside and out and I will never be able to adequately express how much you mean to me...I love you so much! We had so much fun celebrating your special day with you!
Our family has a little tradition for important birthdays where everyone compiles a list of their favorite things about the birthday person. I had fun making my list for mom...it was hard to narrow down! Between us, there were several overlapping favorites, like her good cooking, her instinctual green thumb, her heart for the kids she works with, the loyalty with which she loves her family, and her ability to make friends with any stranger.
This was one of the items from my dad's list.

In the Jungle
Saylor has recently become very interested in singing and especially has loved this song. Please try your best to ignore my terrible singing and her incredibly chocolate covered face...probably not the best video to post but this was a funny memory for me with my parents that I want to remember. :)

Colorado 2010
Last week we went to Colorado with our great friends Nick and Caroline and their sweet little girl Ellie.The first night we stayed in Denver and got to catch up with the Earnests and the Williams (which was great!) and then it was on to Breckenridge!
Nick's parents have a beautiful condo and were generous enough to let us stay there. We had so much fun relaxing, hiking, eating, riding the gondola, and strolling around town. Erick and Brooke Frazier are friends who recently moved to Denver, and they were also able to join us for a couple days.
The weather was gorgeous and it was so nice to spend time away from the heat and the rush of daily life, in the company of good friends. Saylor loved the mountains, the water, baby Ellie, and spending so much uninterrupted time with her daddy. :) Even the 15 hour car ride with two babies went better than expected!
I can't speak for Matt but I know that I myself am a mountain person. Meaning, I would rather spend time in the mountains than at the beach or on a lake or in a big city on vacation. Something about the hugeness of the peaks, the quiet, pristine waterfalls on a hike away from the rest of civilization, just puts things in perspective. I was very thankful for a chance to recharge with our good friends, family and with God.
We took a LOT of pictures, so I tried to do the video thing here. Sorry the quality is kind of poor - I'm sure I picked the wrong pixel upload or something...

We just got back from a wonderful vactaion in Colorado - I'll upload pictures soon but for now, here's a little video of Saylor dancing at a festival we stopped at. She's got some smooth moves! ;)
